The Invasion

T.V.
our protector
our safe connection to the outside world
our best friend, or,
our worst enemy
like a member of our family
in the background of almost every memory
from birth till death
always looking out but never looking in
hollow, trying to suck us in
to fill it's void, like some
hungry black hole
this machine feeds on human lonliness
and fear and mistrust of the outside world
producing a nation of slaves
that buy Coke, eat McDonalds,
and watch Disney movies
because it told you so
that harmless looking little box
has invaded
every home in america
