The Intelligent Breed

THE INTELLIGENT BREED We think we are the Intelligent Breed While upon our own kind we do feed Our hearts, our souls, our brilliant minds Are the real strengths of human kind Not the power of weapons and evil Muggings and shootings and constant upheaval Destruction and violence against our own These are the kinds of seeds we've sown We destroy the very things we need With hate and violence, war and greed Will we ever see the light Of our planet's awful plight Things are not as they should be If we are truly the Intelligent Breed.

Yeah, sometimes we are really not so clever. Though as your poem suggests, our capacity for destruction is matched only by the capacity our hearts and minds hold for love and wonder

Thank You Tony, so true. Too bad love and peace can't seem to over power greed and hate. Sad for everyone

I had a discussion with someone this morning on this very subject. I wish I had had your poem to use as well because it does speak the truth. Really nice Lenna, your words are some many will relate to I am sure.

Thank You Chris, your words are always encouraging. I remember when this poem coiled in my head (2001) and demanded I write. It sprang to the paper in a few short minutes. Be blessed :-)
