The Hunt
Listen to poem:
I’m the ginger ninja of the countryside.
Oh, why did God make me ginger?
Was he having a laugh?
I am the fox.
I sulk between hedgerows
And raid chicken coops.
Unseen, yet hunted for fun,
My fur looks better on me than any woman.
Wear your own skin, I say!
I am the fox, pursued and persecuted.
Horses, men, and dogs run me to ground—
The race of my life: they catch me, I die.
For food? No, just fun.
My cubs orphaned,
So you can have a day’s sport.
I am the fox.
