The Heavens

She stands alone her head lifted towards the heavens,
At her feet wet sand so soft it feels like a carpet,
There is only the sound of silence but for the ripple of the sea,
The heat of the day has been subdued by the darkness,
And not even a bird breaks the tranquility.

So often she stands alone gazing idly at the night sky,
No words spoken for the gods who reside up above set her destiny,
She seeks no favor to be bestowed for death struck cruelly,
Like the greedy Eagle seeks his prey,
Stars twinkle in their acknowledgement of her stare.

Now with silent footsteps she heads homeward, alone to dream,
For tomorrow the sun will rise and scorch her skin,
She will open the window to hear the sound of the children,
And know that forever her womb will remain empty-like a void,
For destiny sent by the gods determined it to be so.
