The Heat

You wake up, head in a haze,
can’t recall the prior day,
felt less good than it used to,
joints aching all over you.
Don’t know why you all went out,
pay today, there is no doubt,
something burned and you answered,
can’t explain, put into words…

Can’t explain, where it came from,
can’t explain, why it was done,
tried in vain, fooling no one,
when it came to it the heat did burn you,
when it comes to it the heat will hurt you…
bad.

You wake up, girl at your side,
who is she? And why does she lie
in your bed; is that woman clean?
No condom anywhere to be seen.
Don’t know why you picked her up,
sex is sex, but it’s not love,
something burned, and you grabbed hold
ignoring all you’ve been told.

Can’t explain, where it came from,
can’t explain, why it was done,
tried in vain, fooling no one,
when it came to it the heat did burn you,
when it comes to it the heat will hurt you…
bad.

What you need versus what you know,
mind says stop, but you just go,
grasping at debauchery,
but the next day you feel empty.
Could cost everything, maybe more,
it’s a tale we’ve all heard before,
what was great becomes a loss,
don’t take yourself away from us.

Can’t explain, where it came from,
can’t explain, why it was done,
tried in vain, fooling no one,
when it came to it the heat did burn you,
when it comes to it the heat will hurt you…
