The Heart's Journey

Should there be such pain in
passion of the heart?
Or does the heart,
simply by beating,
know the boundaries of pain
when it can no longer absorb any more joy?
The two seem intertwined at times,
each exalted unto itself.
From euphoria to melancholia,
the heart is on an endless journey
seeking harmony and balance,
yet finding anything but.
We torture our souls
for the sake of love,
enduring countless curves,
on the road to the steep summit
where a plateau cannot survive
the weathered storms for long,
but for the season’s summers
we exist.

I agree Connie - life has its ups and downs - sadly for me more downs than ups at the moment. It saddens me to see Darren's comments on poems - I hope and pray one day we are in contact again but sadly i have heard nothing from him since October and no news from the family since November:-(

Beautiful write, Connie! The power of the heart and love - the heart wants what it wants and we are often powerless in its grip. Thank you for sharing this journey!

Well said, my dear. It is for that magic--that age-old mystery that we exist...despite the pain. Makes us curious creatures, I guess. That, or it proves how enthralling and overpowering love is, and we are powerless to resist it. Nice

And if by any chance, this is the journey that the heart takes, then it makes it so alive, and full. As they say, one wouldn't know joy if they didn't know sorrow... how you wrote this poem, is so eloquent, I really enjoyed this one, Connie. So beautiful!

What divides effort from struggle, I wonder? I believe it is in the degree of love's reciprocity. Pain then is ultimately either a presence or a memory. I so enjoyed reading this.

The heart leads us a merry dance for sure Connie, but without the downs, how can we soar once more to those marellous ups. A poem that reminds us to be thankful for the highs in our lives. Lovingly written. Take care, Richard
