The Heart of the Matter

It's been said that I'm hard to know,
the truth be told - I've become more private;
It's been said that I look angry,
I say - just see me with my daughter to get the truth;
It's been said that I'm tough on others,
I just laugh - only on the inside.

I hit some rough patches and took a beating,
but my heart was always protected;
my eyes may be red at times,
not from drinking, but from private crying;
some see it as weak,
but strength comes from within - not out.

I have much to carry,
I have more to give;
I have much to teach,
I have more to learn;
I have much to share,
I have much, much more to love.

George, many people don't show their emotions for others to see, but that doesn't mean they don't have feelings. I would like to see you with your daughter and enjoy watching love in action. Excellent poem! Love, Carolyn
