The Hazards of Sleep

a dormant serpent lies
covered up
at the foot of every bed
just the tip
of tail or tongue
exposed
& a dagger under every pillow
whether covered
in jewels or rust
every blade will cut the same
one or both
may hold the taint of poison;
choose carefully your beds
