The Happiest Time of the Year

Israel's Festival of Tabernacles is here
   Designed to bring cheer
It's the happiest time of the year

Crops are harvested from far and near
   Extensive preparations made, quite dear
On balconies, in courtyards, flimsy huts appear

Jews share their largesse with all who draw near
Eat and sleep outside, except in weather severe
Rejoice together, proclaiming this message clear

~ With thanks for our bounty, the Lord we revere

I truly enjoy reading your poetry that shed light on the Jewish faith and customs, Gershon. The extent of my knowledge is due to watching the movie Yentl...! Much appreciated.

Ha, ha! -- Yentl, eh?! I'd recommend 'Fiddler on the Roof,' the movie, (the 'old one' from about 1970 or so). It's really well done, and although a little schmaltzy, really gives you a taste of the Jewish People living in Exile over the centuries --in a musical, fun fashion. (More real, more authentic than Yentl anyday). Anyway, thanks for letting me know how you feel about these kind of poems. I never know what to expect from them. Many blessings, Gershon

Splendid verse as always, Gershon. The best to you and your family as you celebrate precious Jewish heritage! Cletus O'Toole seems to invite trouble - I'm sure you'll be hearing more about him in the future - Bob H
