The Guest
The uninvited guest there sits
He waits with quiet calm
He has no right but still allows
A prayer or a Psalm
He doesn’t move, he doesn’t budge
No feelings, not a care
His purpose clear, his motive blunt
Though neither kind nor fair
He sees the sadness and the pain
But mercy plays no part
Who dare expect these virtues
From the one who has no heart
So he just waits, he takes his time
The chest one last time heaves
A sign to him that it is done
And quietly he leaves.
