The Gift of Fall

Autumn sets the hills ablaze
As the woodlands brightly burn--
And I watch with youthful wonder
As the seasons take their turn.

Each gives way to the other
Taking leave with noble grace--
As spring proffers fields of flowers
And the winter shawls of lace.

But autumn, in its splendor
Gives the greatest gift of all--
It takes the leaves of summer
And to each it gives, the fall.

I too love Autumn, however I must admit that Winter tends to be my favorite season, mostly because I love to wear coats and sweaters, and the cold is just lovely to me. Your rhyme in this poem is exquisite! Much enjoyed! -Juli-Michelle

Splendid, --as the woodlands brightly burn--wonderful imagery. You always have the flow to your words that make them dance from the mind into the imagination.

There she is. How have you been, or should I not ask? You're so nauseatingly positive, you'll manage to turn your circumstance into a pleasure cruise, and I guess that's good. Did I post this fragment of a poem? I'll share it with you in case I didn't. Winter brings us snowfall. Springtime stocks the trees. Summer wakes the June Bug...ah...but oh the autumn breeze!Be well...xoxo...Mel

You're the one, Linda. Hey, thanks again for the mail and for caring. The ego of the poet; tis an intricate dance, indeed :) If you put together one of your unconditional (let the frickin poet write) contests, I'll enter it--just for fun. Peace and love...xxx...Mel

Here I am again to visit you, Mel! :) That second stanza is PURE GOLD! The ending is wonderful too. The first stanza is charming. OH...I guess the whole poem rocks! There is a contest on Autumn. You should join! I think that it is by Nette and is a certain form. I forget the name.

hello Mel, a splendid poem, amazing tree lawn. I don't have this kind of imagery where I live. However, I miss the graceful ways leaves dance around a woodland area... Enjoyed...LINDA

Thank you Jan. Win some, lose some :) I don't know. There seemed to be a hint of early autumn in the air today, and so I dove right in. Of the seasons, I suppose autumn is my favorite. Is there a painting so grand as the crimson color and turn of all?
