Author's Notes: "The Frozen Ghost" is a Rhymed Couplet I wrote to further celebrate the Halloween season for 2015. (In this write, I use the older traditional name for Halloween more seen in Great Britain and Europe, which is "All Hallows' Eve." I also used Old English verb inflections seen in the 16th century in this poem for a more classical flavor in line with the tenor of this write.) The theme of this couplet centers on an annual appearance of a Hell-born icy specter called "The Frozen Ghost" who comes to Earth every All Hallows' Eve to carry out the bidding of The Devil (or "Old Hob" in the poem--a nickname of The Devil from past centuries), in frightening people, spewing The Devil's message of fear and hate, and in acting as an agent for The Devil in tempting people away from Almighty God. In the end, "Mankind" or in a sense, "The People" choose to follow the way of God, and through prayer and penitence, and with Almighty God's divine authority, they are able to rid the Earth (or the World) of "The Frozen Ghost" sending him packing back to his patron, "The Devil" ("Old Hob"). With this, they can now properly celebrate and think of all the souls and spirits of those people who have passed on from Earth beyond the veil. The Frozen Ghost ends up being consigned deep in Hell (or in "Hell's pit"). Happy Halloween!! (Gary Bateman - October 7, 2015) (Rhymed Couplet)

The Frozen Ghost
All Hallows’ Eve conjureth yearly an evil of such a mythic yore,
As a ghastly icy specter walketh silently now through our door!
This frozen ghost of yore giveth we the living his curses on this night,
With his blackest of eyes and icy hands delivereth he his horrid fright.
The frozen ghost’s unholy eyes mirroreth clear Old Hob’s very plan,
To bringeth his fear, hate, and Hellspawn here to God’s divine land!
Mankind hath a sacred duty so true to fight Old Hob’s vile temptation,
And to resist the frozen ghost’s message whilst praying for redemption.
We prayeth now to Almighty God to send this frozen ghost on his way,
Back now to Old Hob, never to walk on this Earth another night or day!
We honoureth All Hallows’ Eve and thinketh of all departed souls’ wit,
Knowing the frozen ghost has gone now—buried so deep in Hell’s pit!
