The Fourth of July

It was so like you to choose a day
marked on the calendar in red,
as if we needed a reminder
of those hot tears that we shed
in that time now half a lifetime gone.
The calendar still makes me cry,
as it reminds me of the sadness on
your last Fourth of July.

Holidays are difficult to celebrate if a personal tragedy occurred on one of them. Good write as usual.
