The Flower and the Thorn
Two trees embrace beside the beaten path.
Two seeds had found a common ground.
Their barks caress, a whitethorn and an elder.
The thorn displays his springtime best,
the elder holds her flower for later.
Their roots beneath entwine unseen,
as soil and sap are shared, and sun.
Though whitethorn shades the elder’s green,
consummated, they are content as one.
