The Fisher-boy
Poetic Form: Couplet
Tom is quite a fisher-boy,
and the lake gave him much joy,
Till the wintry freeze had come,
then it seems to be ho-hum,
All the lake froze-up in ice,
"Make a hole", his dad's advice,
Be a hole, though be it small,
thinly ice had made him crawl,
What was caught was not enough,
going forth was very tough,
A plain plan had come to mind,
a big hole that he designed,
Some big hole meant bigger fish,
thought it great and great his wish,
In that hole, his tackle went,
baited hook assured descent,
What had followed none expect,
line tugged hard sure sign detect,
Tom pulled strong then faced bad luck,
bass mouth out, the rest got stuck.
This fairy-tale means, The bigger the hole, the bigger the fish.
