It's good that you can point so directly at what precipitated your poetic journey, Darlene. I think the one that "got" to me, was "Trees" by Joyce Kilmer. Although, I blush to admit it, now, but for many years I thought "he" was a "she".

Darlene, wonderful poem and reminded me that I have always wrote since a young child, but I found my "poetic voice" on the day my father died in 1997 and I wrote my poem called Dad's Work Shed, I think for each poet when this happens we never forget it ~Constance

This is such an awesome poem my dear friend Darlene. A creative way to share with us how you became in love with poetry. For me, as far as I remember I started when my mom trained me to memorize poems and recite aloud with interpretations. The first 2 poems i memorized were Cradle Hymn and A Tree. i remember too when the world of Emily Dickinson opened for me....Hope is a thing with feathers....it found a perch in my soul...loved the poem whose depth said so much of my own experience...great job

I too was drawn to a poem, 'Fame is a Bee,' by Emily Dickinson. A very simple poem, but very difficult to replicate. :) gw

gosh, what a wonderful way to be drawn to poetry. I think the poetry of Sara Teasdale is what inspired ME most, though I never even started writing poems till decades after I had read her poetry in high school.
