It's good that you can point so directly at what precipitated your poetic journey, Darlene. I think the one that "got" to me, was "Trees" by Joyce Kilmer. Although, I blush to admit it, now, but for many years I thought "he" was a "she".

It is marvelous when we find a poem that hits our soul; it sounds like this one did. I loved Kubla Khan by Samuel T Coleridge like this.

Hello Caren, Yes it is marvelous how a poem hits your soul. At that time I was not creating poetry. I did find a place to learn how to create poetry. Now I love poetry and enjoy it. Hugs.

Darlene, thank you for sharing your poem that made you love poetry. I had that experience when I read Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken". I love to go back and read it, and I never grow tired of it. Enjoy your day, my friend.

Darlene, wonderful poem and reminded me that I have always wrote since a young child, but I found my "poetic voice" on the day my father died in 1997 and I wrote my poem called Dad's Work Shed, I think for each poet when this happens we never forget it ~Constance

This is such an awesome poem my dear friend Darlene. A creative way to share with us how you became in love with poetry. For me, as far as I remember I started when my mom trained me to memorize poems and recite aloud with interpretations. The first 2 poems i memorized were Cradle Hymn and A Tree. More pieces followed before my writing. I enjoyed reading your poem my dear friend. Thanks a lot for sharing. God bless you always. Hugs

That's wonderful, Darlene! It must be a great poem! I think, I started liking poetry when a Professor read Robert Browning's dramatic monologues in my first year of university. That Professor was not very popular, but her reading was astounding! Darlene, your poems are so true to life! Love ~ Mala

gosh, what a wonderful way to be drawn to poetry. I think the poetry of Sara Teasdale is what inspired ME most, though I never even started writing poems till decades after I had read her poetry in high school.
