The Ferris Wheel

I can't describe just how I feel,
when I go round on a Ferris wheel,
the lights, they shine so bold and bright,
above the carnival grounds tonight.

My mood is uplifted into the air,
as my heart beats without a care,
I feel so free, as if I could fly,
with nothing between the ground and I.

The cool night wind flows in my hair,
the people look so small, way down there,
I hold my breath as I go over the top,
a feeling, surreal, I don't want to stop.

As fear escapes and I enjoy the ride,
I can't help but look down, over the side,
I am up among the stars and the moon,
an exciting feeling that ends, all too soon.

Congratulations on your win. I love it in its simplicity however if others read into it all the better. Great works are usually layered which is always good. I HAVE ADDED THIS TO MY FAVS. I HOPE OTHERS DO THE SAME.

Thank you for the nice comments and kind congrats, Maurice!.... My poems are usually pretty straightforward, but if others want to read more into it, then that's alright, too.... Thanks for faving this one, also! :)

fine penned piece Kelly, really nice flow with good rhyme but being from across the pond don't know about a 'ferris wheel' so you can explain later. have blessed day, Gordon

Thank you very much for the nice comments, Gordon!.... A Ferris wheel is similar to the London Eye, only on a much smaller scale.

pd. thinks you are comparing this to love. hmmm, why can't it just be about the ferris wheel? hahaha. I see you won a contest with this? BIG congrats.

Kelly, I love love love carnival rides. Ferris wheel is a bit tame for me. But I know exactly the feeling you paint of being up there with the wind in your hair. Going to fairs and on rides is one of the things I miss MOST about my youth!

Hi Kelly, wow.. what a ride! I was not sure, if you are comparing love, to a ferris wheel. If you are, you got it all perfect, for love is as scary as can be. also thrilling. Enjoyed...LINDA

Hi Linda, I am glad you enjoyed the ride!.... I was not comparing a Ferris wheel to love, but I can see how my poem could be interpreted that way. Thank you for your great comments, as always. I do appreciate it!

Thank you very much, Lucilla. I really appreciate your nice comments!.... I'm glad that you enjoyed my poem and Ferris wheels, as well. I have loved them ever since I was a kid, and it has become somewhat of a tradition to ride on one each year, at the county fair.

Hi Kelly...I really enjoyed this write. It was only 2 years ago that I went for the first time on such a wheel when I was on Blackpool's pier. It was at night, so I can relate to how you feel in your poem. hugs. // paul

Hi Paul, I have loved Ferris wheels since I was a kid. In fact, I was on one about 2 weeks ago, and I think that inspired this poem. A Ferris wheel just makes you feel so alive and carefree, like when I was young.... Thank you for taking the time to read and comment on my poem. I appreciate it very much!

Dear Kelly, your joy flows so well throughout this poem. It's like the reader is right there with you atop the ferris wheel's highest carriage. Also want to compliment you on the co-write you did with Paul. Excellent! Love, Carolyn

I was around 10 years old when I rode a Ferris wheel for the first time. I was terrified, but I loved it! Since then, I've wanted to ride on one at least once every year. In fact, I was just on a Ferris wheel about two weeks ago at the county fair, and I think it inspired me to write this poem. I'm so glad you enjoyed it, Keith!

I enjoyed this poem today!! I asked my first wife to marry me at the top of a Ferris Wheel that had stopped to let passengers off. She said yes and gave me a kiss that didn't stop until the Wheel jolted into motion again! That was 41 years ago.

A nice romantic moment, Robert! I think a lot of good memories are made on Ferris wheels. I was on one about 2 weeks ago at the county fair, and it just inspired me to pick up my pen and write. I'm glad you enjoyed this poem, my friend!
