The Fearless Four Plus One

The Fearless Four plus one

Julie was first with her fashionable queries
With a white envelope that she held in her hand
She knocked on the door of her freckle-faced neighbor
And told Sniffling Sammy about her new plan

Let’s meet at the clubhouse now go tell the others
He ran with a sneeze and his hanky held tight
To inform the twins of the Fearless Four meeting
Down at the clubhouse this warm summer night

Wally and Sally then hopped on their scooters
And traveled as fast as the wind, they did go
To find out the secret that Julie discovered
That only the Fearless Four would come to know

They climbed up the boards that were nailed to the maple
And waited outside of the door made of cloth
When Julie requested the secretive password
They whispered it through the hole made by a moth

Buddy the Boxer his tail started wagging
As Wally and Sally now entered the place
Sammy sat down in the corner just waiting
Constant a tissue was held to his face

Julie then placed it face up on a table
Explaining to each where she found it had been
Covered in dust and behind the old sofa
It must have blown down there somehow by the wind

Everyone smiled, now their hands placed together
Then with a “Hi Ho” they went on their way
Julie and Sammy and Wally and Sally
And Buddy, his tail was still wagging away

Their plan had been settled and now was in motion
They opened the gate of the white picket fence
Knocked on the door till his mother did answer
Asked her if they could just visit with Spence

Well I do not know for he’s been very angry
She said while inviting them all to come in
I’ll run and I’ll ask and I’ll see if he’s ready
She said with a half hearted fake looking grin

Spence came downstairs and he wasn’t smiling
What do you want; you four are not my friends
None of you even remembered my birthday
Not even a cheap silly card could you send

Then Julie spoke in her sweetest girl voice
Handing the envelope to the young lad
Here is the card that the four of us bought you
It somehow got lost and we feel really bad

We meant to send it, just look at the postage
The address and name were all ready to go
Never would we ever forget your birthday
That’s why we’re here; we just want you to know

The biggest broad smile now Spencer he was wearing
The children all laughed as they walked out the door
The case had been solved in their wonderful fashion
The New Fearless Five would be friends evermore

Hahaha Chris, now tell me in all honesty: when you had to read a book in school, did you READ the book, or just an abstract? ;) That aside: you wrote a wonderful story here and I enjoyed it very very much! Thank you my friend.

Hehe, just as I thought :D We're so different my friend, yet so alike.... School isn't everything, we found each over poetry and art, and that's wonderful.

Ok, the truth...nope, I never read any of them. :) If it wasn't a comic book, I wasn't interested in reading it. When I had to do a book report I usually just read the ending of the book and made up my own story. Probably why I didn't do so well in school. Thanks so much my friend.

You and Enid could have a lot in common Chris. It takes a lot of talent to write a poetic story, make it interesting with mystery, and then ending it with the kind of ending that warms the heart with emotional happiness. You need to make this into a published children's story. It brings joy Chris, and at the same time teaches Kids to reach out. I love it! BRAVO! 7 ; )

Thank you so very much Connie. I appreciate your kindness and your encouragement. I like adding a lesson of sorts when I write this type of poetry. I probably won't publish it but it is so nice of you to say that. I am happy you enjoyed this my friend.

Thanks so much Jan. I used Buddy because that is my dogs name and I thought he'd have fun in my poem. :)

i've never heard of this writer, chris, but i loved your children's tale! i can just picture the illustrations that would accompany it. it sounds very old-fashioned (and i mean that as a compliment) and is charming and just delightful...

Again you surprise me with this adorable tale. I DO like it. Well done !! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. Also, you spin a message I see between the lines on the importance of being a thoughtful supportive friend. (tho- I have never read Enid Blyton, so I can't compare to that)

Psst, between you and me, I never read her either but I entered an Enid Blyton poem challenge so I glanced at some of her books to get an idea on what to write. :) Thank you Lenna and you are right, that is the message I was trying to convey. I truly appreciate your kindness.
