''The Essence of Your Love'' Revised
The essence of your love is wrath,--
a gale, a tempest: a stormy path!
It is the breath and soul of God,
a being whose vengeance is broad.
It is a thunderous, loud peal--
a thunderclap that we both feel;
it is a storm that blasts our coasts,
destroying all that we love most.
It is a menacing, strong squall
that bodes misfortune for us all;
it is an angry hurricane
that creates misery and pain.
In peace, it pacifies your anger
and warms us all without danger:
the essence of your love’s now new,--
a source of heat that burns so true!
