The Escape

It is quiet here, Which is why I have come To hide from the world. I hear their voices screaming, "Come back, come back to us!" But they will never change, Picking me apart, In deed and thought... It is quiet here, In the shelter of soft lights and The music that surrounds me... Why have they sent out the alarm? It is quiet here, And I shall stay here forever, Or at least until dawn; then I shall slip away, fading again into The shadows of the woman who pretends To be me, except she is empty of the fire That makes the world around me smile. I am only me when I spend quiet days Surrounded by all these treasures, In the sweet surrender and peace offered In your arms and love. Cynthia
