The Enemy
There is only one antagonist
In this story of life
He appears in different forms, to us
He works inside our minds
There is only one, authentic foe
From title page, to end
On every leaf, your book bestows
The impact of his sin
But long before, your chapter one
A misconception surfaced
An image that won’t be undone
Perception was it’s purpose
This illustration left him red
A pitchfork, tail and horns
Imaginations would be fed
But doubt would soon be born
The epitome of a cartoon villain
And star of Halloween
An aching tooth in need of filling
Hideous to extremes
But, despite his soul’s appearance
That’s never what we see
He hides behind a face and scent
An addictive recipe
