Notes About The Poem

THE EMPTY ROOM

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
the door clicks shut leaving only dust particles dancing in sunbeam's path. four walls hold their breath waiting for footsteps that never come. a single nail protrudes where a frame once hung its shadow stretching longer with each passing hour. the silence settles thick as plaster dust in corners untouched. no echo answers when the floorboards sigh beneath the weight of absence. light bleeds across bare floors marking time in slow degrees. air grows stale~ withheld breath and unspoken words condensing on the ceiling.
You are an animation of a living presence, and the empty room becomes an unforgettable animation within your mind. As you leave, it remains a part of your life as your mind remains intact. The room, though an inanimate, lifeless thing, knows not of its presence or your presence ever being there, for it is not only lifeless, but mindless as well. If it is burned, it will do nothing to stop it, being that it’s inanimate, having no feelings to live or die. A place and nothing more, Aloha.
Great poetry! A FAV! Even a shack is better, if filled with children and laughter. We should not be prisoners of memory.
