My heart has become an empty room
love has vanished and left me alone
silence is haunting, memories consume
the last look from you was chiseled in stone

The walls of my room are painted in shadows
they peel away when I think of you
this focused illusion always narrows
when I escape the reality that we are through

There are no windows in my room
no light is reflected on its walls
only sadness of internal gloom
where my heart's wormwood emotion crawls

Days and nights are spent in solitary confinement
separated from the love I've known
I created this empty room for my atonement
I'll live out my sentence in my empty room unknown

Your poem evokes the loneliness that comes with loss. And the room a symbol of our hearts. I like your poem.

Dear Frederic, your exceptional poem is filled with imageries and nuances that portray the bottomless ache of a lost love. Your shining artistry captures the beauty of emotional misery with finesse. Congratulations for your win in Craig's contest. It's an honor to share the podium with you, dear friend, dear poet. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

Dear frederick, i always appreciate and enjoy reading your poems and this is no exception! Its so evocative and soulfully moving! So creative how you’ve used the prompt too! Clever! And that opening line really did make me feel so much! The gloominess and melancholy from loss so very vividly depicted! Best wishes for the contest
