The Elixir of Moonshine
THE ELIXIR OF MOONSHINE
eyes intoxicated
with bright light,
exotic lashes — luxurious
with midnight mascara, and
the elixir of moonshine.
a foghorn bays...
the brim of his wayward hat,
in line with his pupils.
the sway of his trenchcoat,
the hardness of his knuckles.
he grabs her slender
trembling fingers.
tear droplets drain down
ruddy mountain peaks —
after effects of her shame.
a body tries to wake up.
a cowboy boot, like a weed
in the perpetrator’s chest,
speaks of a different kind
of awakening.
moaning of spurs
stirs a sweet smile
from an admirer.
like a shooting star
or fireworks,
her bruised pupils illuminate.
he tips his straw-colored hat,
“howdy ma’am”
