The elegance of privilege
Privilege is elegant
Graceful, as it glides like a breeze
Unnoticed by those who catches its attention
Noticed by those who live in the shadow
Although it's voice not loud
It's presence demands to be heard
It's violence shows in its hidden claws
Knowing when to pounce and when to be quiet
It lives within recognition
And if quick smiles
Between those who have never had to run a mile
Those who know hardwork doesn't pay but Whiteness does
It lives in vicinity and shared closeness
It lives in the need to be chosen by power
Privilege leans to power and ignores the vulnerable
It spreads the idea of superiority
Because it believes its superior
It dances around those who crave power
Softly whispering in their ears
Sweet promises of luxury
And dreams of having others do the work that they would then take credit for
It lives in job applications accepted due to having a name that screams white
It lives in the safety of white acceptance
And proximity to the colour
Its being greeted with a smile instead of being followed
Privilege is its own currency
Usable in any country
As long as you possess it
It is the welcoming of a race 'deemed' superior
A claim honoured by privilege
Privilege doesn't have to scream to be heard
The essence of the word
Is naturally known across the world
Whether you have it or dont
