The Egotistical Ladder

I clung to the hot metallic ladder Standing on the ground, it's strength eclipsing its little quaver I started to climb, as it led to where I wanted to be, But the fiendish friction decieved my laboured steps, each rung being slippery, In each effort, I slipped, Sometimes gently, sometimes with a crashing thud, Hurting different parts of my heart, soul, mind and body, Physically, mentally and mostly emotionally. Yet I try again, I clasp the torrid metal, That recoiled at my touch, trying to shake me off, But I clung to it like a parasite, Because I knew, the ladder led me to my target, Therefore, I refused to let go, And climbed on and on in a flow, Enduring, striving, panting as I worked my way up, With the hope to see the day I would reach the top, I climbed on and on...........
