The Edge

This poem was inspired by a piece from the modern artist Mark Ruthko.
Grey ash evinces our long hot burn. The blaze, suddenly extinguished, leaves a blackened smoltering expanse that uncouples here and the horizon, the beginning and the end, you and me. Separated, we burn quietly sending the signal, “I love you,” through the devastation, under the polluted purple sky. Alone.
