The Dream That Will Never Wake

I carried a dream through nights of pain…
A flickering light in a stormed-out brain.
Each step I took, the ground would shake,
The world gave nothing, no hand to take.

I stumbled on stones I could not see.
The road behind me swallowed by misery.
Good intentions met walls too steep,
promises broken, too harsh to keep.

The blaze within my mind has dimmed,
choked by shadows, cruel and grim.
I chased the roads, the doors, the signs,
Only to find none were mine.

I whispered to the dawn, asked it to wait,
to guide my dream from a distant state.
But morning arrived with vacant hands,
and left me wandering barren lands.

Everything has slipped away.
No roof. No bread. No friend.
Even kindness bends, even breaks.
The dream I loved sleeps for now.
Still - I carry this grief and somehow,
I keep going.

I felt deep pain and anguish as I read your poem. I've had similar experiences and feelings. Well crafted and compelling poem.
