The Dream Lingers

I meander past a rippling stream,
     my hair blowing in the wild wind;
was that my name being called, softly.

did it sigh in the tangled trees above,
     I twirl and swirl to only bird songs;
my name is but an echo, fading.

mother where are you, mother,
     wait, wait, I am coming, wait for me;
but only silence sighs, whispering.

I wake suddenly in my hospital bed,
     lost in a sea of pain drifting;
gasping and struggling and breathing.

I was lost in a vivid dream,
     where I was searching and seeking;
then I lay still in my bed, moaning.

'We are such stuff as dreams are made on . . . " [" The tempest" ~ Shakespeare] --- Humbled in the realization that ones identity is comparable to nature's insubstantial wisps but it's also the birthing place of wisdom. The Buddhist say: "Thou art that" - one of a multiplicity of Earth expressions.

Robert, thank you for coming to read my poem. I have done well with this poem. It was written after a near death experience, I survived obviously. Stayed in hospital for 6 months and was changed forever, blessings, Constance

Constance, I feel so much that you were taking first steps into heaven, but it was not your time to go. I am so glad the Lord pulled you through. My grandma was 92 when she began hearing her parent's voices calling to her about three weeks before she went home to heaven. My grandma was at peace, and it was her time. God has blessed us, Constance, by allowing you to stay and bless us with your loving, deep, spiritual heart through comments, and poems. You are a precious treasure.

BJ, thank you so much for the visit, comment, compliment, I was so sick and the doctors told my family to expect my death, but you are right God said "not yet" ! The first things I wanted when able was a pen and paper and a bible, love Constance

Andrea, thank you so much for the visit, comment and compliment and fav back in 2016, as you can see I got many wins with this poem. Yes, it is important to me, people say to me it was just a dream but I was there, and I wanted to find my mother but she whispered later, it was not time, Constance

I came here to read your first poem here Constance. So deep and sad, but leave it. You are such a GREAT poetess my dear friend, and as I read some comments and your replies to them, I understood, there were still thousands of poems that you had written and had been deleted. Feeling blessed to read such a fabulous first post of yours. Hugs ~ Ani

Ani, thank you for reading my poem, I have done well with this poem as you can see, it was written after a near death experience, I had left PS for a while in 2012 and deleted all my poems, I had been the top poet at the time, but not happy with that I shredded every hard copy, it was a total melt down, I had no intention of ever writing again, and then, I wrote this and have never stopped, I cannot recreate what was lost but must just go on _Constance

I see this was a poem on your return, you would have had millions otherwise.. such a shame you deleted them.... This was not really a contest, it was an opportunity to showcase your first poem and I am glad you entered. Thank you.

Silent, thanks for the contest and my placement, sadly you are correct, my first poem was actually in 2008 but because of a mental meltdown in 2012, I deleted thousands of my poems, even the hard copies destroyed, but my account stayed as it was a lifetime.. then, in August 2012, after a near death,(thus this poem) and I think maybe it was meant to be that way because I came back a better poet _Constance

Line, the experience still haunts me, because I did not want to come back, I wanted to follow my mothers voice and that would have meant.. well, I came back and needed to write, I recall writing in my hospital bed and my brother got me hooked up to internet and I came back to poetrysoup and here I am _Constance

Greg I had been top contest poet when I left deleting all poems and that was a mistake, what I should have done is just step back. And that is my suggestion to all. When I came back I started at the bottom so I am very proud at what I have accomplished.

Thank you to all who have visited my poem with comments and congratulations, I appreciate you so much. This was a very emotional poem for me as I had left Poetry Soup for about a year, I had lost my Muse, removing all my poetry but did not delete my account. Then, I had a near death experience and dreamt this dream or was it a dream, anyways I woke up in a hospital bed alive and had a great need to write again and returned to Poetry Soup, I was in the hospital for 6 months and wrote each day.

Broken Wings, I came to read your first write and I'm enthralled; your poignant write brought whispers of tears to my eyes.. so moving, tender, heartfelt and pure is your write. Your third verse is so emotional with longing and love... beautifully emotive and captivating.. your write clutched at my heartstrings and I love that! Your wins are well deserved... I'm sorry that you were going through a bad time though... My warmest wishes always..
