The Desert's Gift

THE DESERT'S GIFT On a cold Christmas morning the dusty harmattan breeze blew from the Sahara all through West Africa unto the gulf of Guinea The wind howled through the desert as it blew It's cold air a sting on the skin causing goosebumps The sight of sand swirling around in the air As it blew It was that time of the year again, the season of Christmas the season of showing love It was termed the celebration of the birth of Christ The activities and festivities didn't look as if they were celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ It looked more like something else Lots of merriments and cheer, Christmas was seen as an excuse to party But who cares? It was a time when family spent quality time together Shared gifts and cracked jokes to keep the party fun On the other part of the world In Europe Christmas is celebrated differently It is seen as a time to give and spend time with family Not an excuse to party [laughs] Majority of Europe is covered in snow during Christmas, it is usually in the season of winter Same time the harmattan wind blows through the Sahara across West Africa The fun activities are quite similar to that of Africa Except everywhere is decorated with Christmas trees and lightings Giving the whole a place A touch of glamour and splendour Plays, concerts and performances are held to commemorate with the birth of Jesus Christmas in Africa holds nothing of the sort Except in a few region Though it's an excuse to party but it's also the best time of the year As you get to spend time with family and friends Christmas in Africa and Europe And other parts of the world with always be different Different people, different culture The main point of it is to spend time with family. Yes, and for me in Australia, Christmas is hot (usually). I like how the cold wind is a character in your poem, with it's own path. Christmas and the commemoration of Jesus' birth - is a beautiful topic. Everyone who heard from the shepherds were full of wonder at what they were told. It is fun to have family time, and also a time of wonder. I enjoyed your poem.
