The Death of Light

Once again befalls the night,
The birth of dark; the death of light.
The shroud that veils the light of day,
Of silk and lace does lightly lay.
And so the mourners straggle on
Each waiting for a coming dawn;
Yet this is not a common night--
T is the birth of dark...
And the death of light!

If you just add a little ' before 'Tis it will take care of those wondering who T is. I quite like it that you used that word. I use it often when called for. I love this poem. It can't always be light. Metaphorically speaking, anyone going into a period of loss or mourning will so easily relate to this poem. Even if they are simply feeling depression holding them down.. A brilliant write my friend, one that is moving straight into my fav's! #7

Thank you Connie. I don't have many poems on people's fav lists--that I know of--so I thank you for that. I'm honored. Peace and happiness to you. Oh, and fly me out to Hawaii one of these days. If I could go anywhere, it would be there :)

I don't know why but this brings to mind Zombies. I like the premise of this piece but almost feel it is to brief considering you are describing an endless darkness.

Funny, I thought the same thing. Tough call, that. better not enough than too much, I guess. Thank you for the visit and comment. As I've said, I value your opinion. Smiles...Mel

Excellent write! Bravo! Often in life there appears to be a predominance of darkness and we wait for a dawn that may never come.

Thank you Pandita. I appreciate your kind and intelligent remarks. I'm glad you dropped by, and I hope to see you again soon...Mel :) P.S. Sounds like you got the essence of the write, and that's cool!

Tragic, but inevitable. It is nature, it can't be undone, respected and not feared. For a new day does rise again.

True, of course, but not in this write...there is no dawn, but endless night. The muse offered me a metaphor of supreme darkness, and I took it. Like I said, life ain't all roses, moonbeams and nightingales. Wish it were.

I'm still in this never ending night of mine....waiting for the dawn. Sometimes I see glimmers of hope...rays shining...and then the darkness envelopes again...just as portrayed in this splendid write of yours, Mel. I can only say......what I tell myself...what else can I do, but wait...wait for the dawn.

Oh, I'm waiting...and waiting. I think most people will read this once and move on, having missed the metaphor entirely. In this poem, as I intended it, there is no dawn. Thanks for the read and comment, my friend, and I hope the sun comes out for both of us. And they lived happily ever after :)

It is always darkest before the dawn Mel and if not we can adhere to the old Bob Seger song "Night Moves" ...splendid write

Thanks Tim. "Darkest before the dawn..." Wasn't that a Mama's and Papa's lyric back in the day? Bob Seger's okay, but Night Moves has three hundred choruses in it lol Shoot me! Thanks for the compliment, my friend. I hope you had a nice weekend...where'd it go?
