The Deadly Opposite

I dream of places and times that exist
only in my dreams
far away places replete with green valleys
and white snowcapped mountain tops

Places where season’s rhythms rule
where fish come up to boats and smile
places where dreams are fantasies
but everything you dream is real

Places where no romances beckon
and love is not necessary
and there is no need to create babies
to feel gown up and useful

No desperate need to get a good education
to get a good paying job
or have health insurance
to get ills taken care of or better yet have no ills

I dream of an earth where no wars are waged
to satisfy old men’s egos
but dreams of mine seem real
if not foolhardy, maybe even stupid

As unrequited dreams
like unrequited prayers
are beautiful in their concept
but their reality is often

the deadly opposite.
