Notes About The Poem

Image result for pictures of a christmas tree turned over on the floorThat was the year that the Christmas fell 3 times for some reason and I had put some cord around it and tied it to the wall and it fell for the fourth time. It was out of there. LOL..I had never had a tree to fall before and haven't had one to fall since. We even had a special tree stand that was supposed to prevent that from happening.

The Dead Tree

Gifts opened, meal eaten we went to bed There we lay dreaming, strange thoughts in our head When a loud crash thundering I jumped, ran wondering The Christmas tree fell its last time, quite dead

Why, thank you, Andrea. I remember it like it was yesterday. It happened a little differently. I was not in bed asleep but was inside the house but in another room. I had a view of the tree from where I was standing, and our son walked by the tree and when he got on the other side that Christmas Tree fell flat on the floor. I started packing up what survived and threw that tree out the door because it had fallen about 3 times before. Sara K

This is most probable.... but it will drive us crazy. However you seem to have taken it in a humorous vein. Lovely limerick. Hope this is for the Holiday humor Limerick contest. All the Best.

how perplexing but kind of funny at the same time. Our first Christmas tree as a married couple was a 'Charlie Brown' tree—I do think it died before we ever brought it back to our apartment. We decorated it anyway.

Sometimes those bought trees are cut way to soon. We cut that one on our own land so it was fresh. I don't know why it kept falling over. Sara K

Boy what a time for you. Nice how you borrowed from real life for this

Andrea, I was thinking about the "Night Before Christmas" rhyme when trying to get a rhythm. I don't think I accomplished that though but it actually happened. Everything I write even if I read another poem that gives me an idea or if I put information into AI to help me come up with a new work comes from what I have lived, felt or read about someone else feeling or living. Thank you for dropping by and leaving a nice review. Sara K

Is this, like, a not infrequent occurrence or something? I have no idea, as I don't even have a 'Chanukah bush.' ~ gw

Gershon, I am not familiar with the Jewish traditions that happen this time of year. I do know they have a Menorah that they light because of the time of miraculous oil that lasted so I guess we are even. I only had that one tree that kept falling over but I am sure it happens quite frequently. I even had it in a newly invented tree stand that was supposed to hold it no matter what and hold it very straight. For some reason that year it kept falling over even though that last time I had tied it to the wall. LOL..Sara K

A sound, solid Christmas limerick that will resonate with many. It flows with such flair. Thanks for your kind soupmail, Sara, to which I have replied. Howard

Yes, Howard, I am sure that people from all walks of life have had a live Christmas tree that was chopped down to fall over after it had been decorated. LOL..Except it is not funny when it happens. Thanks for the kind review. Sara K
