The Days of Wine and Roses
Days of Wine and Roses
In pure innocence do begin.
Simple champagne, what's wrong
with that?
A bouquet of roses, tender and
not one sin.
You feel as soft and innocent as
a newborn kitten.
For some, wine and alcohol into
an addiction turn.
It grabs one by the throat.
Food no longer counts, it makes
your stomach churn.
You've crossed into alcoholism
on that partying, denial boat..
Nothing counts in life,except that
next drink.
Troubles in life seem to mount.
People around you shake their
finger and ask" can't you think?"
Financial and social problems,
too many to count.
You wonder, what's wrong with me?
Promising to stop but you cannot.
You wish for a magic decree.
To help you once and for all, stop
your alcoholic misery.
Nobody knows how empty and alone
you feel.
They have turned their backs on you
and walked away.
You lost your grip on life's sober keel.
So in dismay, you buy the next bottle
and go on your lonely way.
Then God sends some angels your way,
who were once exactly like you.
But now live sober and happy each day.
Recovery happens to millions with God's
grace!
They become one of God's humble all-stars.
And grateful contributors to the human race!
