The Day I Met You
The day I met you;
I wish I could recall
The way my cheeks turned red
When you turned your smiling head.
I’m sure there was a tingle
Rushing down my spine
As your gaze fell upon me,
Your eyes meeting mine.
You held out a stately hand,
I took it without haste
I couldn’t bring myself to speak,
Yet a moment I could not waste.
Just to think of your strong hand
Wrapping gently ’round my own
The warmth of you surrounding me,
My zeal for you full-grown.
If only I could remember
The way you spoke my name
How magical you made it sound,
The way my heart did pound!
Ah, the day I met you:
I wish I could recall . . .
But, alas, it seems
I’ve met you only in my dreams.
