The Cry of a Baby Elephant

I heard the bang bang sound
and i knew mama you were no more
just like many of our kind
hunted and slaughtered like worthless creatures
and when your value is taken
you are left to rot and your kid to suffer

Who's fault is it mama
that we carry a treasure they so much desire?
that we must continue to die
so that they can get it?
and when one of us falls
their thirst for us becomes even more?

Mama they are now coming for me
to take me through the same route as you
though i run as much as i can
i know they will eventually get at me
and though against my wish
i will soon join you mama
but perhaps together we can find a way
to rescue our remaining few.

Brought back by popular demand! And the elephants are still being hunted. Someone has to speak up for the innocent. Thanks for being the one. Timeless.

A touching poem for a first post here at Poetry Soup, Cyrus. I come back to read the rest of your poetry that I missed along the way. I can feel the feelings of sadness as you address the terrible mistake man makes in the disrespect of God's creation. The killing of animals because of greed is inhumane. Your sensitivity to all forms of life is evident in your caring words. Thank you for caring and for sharing your thoughts with us through your fine poetry, my friend. God bless you, Bill

Cyrus, I have discovered you only today and am sorry for myself to have missed out for these years on such magnificent work. Please, I've read only a few so far but in succeeding days will pursue and comment further. I applaud. It's difficult to congratulate grief. Elizabeth

I assume you are talking about Porchers who want the ivory from the elephant's tusk, and the baby elephant realizes they are next. If I am right your poem was a great awareness poem.
