The Crossing

THE CROSSING* 1. On the bank of oblivion’s river A soul hastily arrives Wishing to cross on the other side Where eternity resides 2. Has been preparing for the crossing Since the first day of her birth But now that the moment is so near She is afraid of her death 3. More few moments she is begging For much better to prepare Before the Charon with his boat Her, to perpetuity transfer 4. Death however is adamant Since to delay he can not So he is reminding the soul That it is her mortal lot 5. With dread, she is now boarding For the trip of no return But surprised she is to find That this is of no concern 6. As the crossing is completed And the soul disembarks On the land of sanctified This is now what remarks 7. All worries and all burdens That she carried all along When imprisoned in the body In that place don’t belong 8. For the first time, she is sensing Real freedom in her being Such an amount of love and beauty This world has never seen 9. In one instance, she turns holy And with angels, she soars To the heavens of the Blessed Where her creator adores! © Demetrios Trifiatis 16 OCTOBER 2013 * In my previous poem I dealt with " MAN'S LIFE", "THE CROSSING" deals with what comes after that! If one has the time it would be a good idea to read both for a better understanding of the circle of life and death as it is presented here! Thank you!

Very lovely....Yes, I have read this before and left a comment, but it was so wonderful to read it again. Yes, a better day IS coming for us all. By His grace, we can be partakers of eternity. Thank you for pointing me to this. Hugs!

Charon,, as you know, is not my topic but eternal life is! Charon is only the bridge of this and the next world, abridge that all have to cross one day wanted it or not! Heaven seekers must not look in this world to find salvation! I read your verses of Charon, fascinating and captivating writing! Thank you!

Happy am I if, by any chance, something positive my poem has brought in your life! Thank you very much for your comment and your visit!

This is the version we want to believe. I sure do hope it is correct!!! Guess I am not as faithful or hopeful as you are. A lot of what we believe has to do with our upbringing. Many think their church is the right church or their belief is the right belief. Anyway, I sure do like your belief!!

Well, Andrea, I would agree with you in what you say, however, if you had dealt with the subject of death, as long as I have and you had heard the stories of bereaved people and the experiences they had and if you had been close to death more than once then probably you would think differently! Thank you very much for your visit and honest comment!

Thank You so much Demetrios. My wife passed over not so long ago and she was so afraid, All my words failed to comfort her.I beleave as you do that all is peace when we are close to God. I don't understand all this fear over death which is but the freeing of the soul from earthly tribulations . Peace be with you.

My dear, Lucy, the purpose of writing this poem is to appease pain and not to make you cry. Crying though is, as the ancient Greeks used to say, a catharsis that helps the soul of the living! Thank you for your generosity!

Great emotive and expressive work about what everyone will face in their life..To live is to know that death will come unless we are the lucky generation that shall not taste of death's sting..Enjoyed reading your work this morning..Thanks for the visit to my page..We are glad that Karter has been given another year with people who will love him...Sara

- Demetrios, a deep and wonderfully well written poem! - Death may sound cruel out .... but nobody knows .... - As a nurse, I have experienced many times that death is coming. - Some welcome death with open arms .... others are afraid of the unknown .... - Have a nice day my friend. - oxox // Anne-Lise :)

My good friend, Anne-Lise, we understand something in the degree we experience it, as Plato, says. So you have a good understanding of death as far as a person alive could have. Myself three times have crossed swords with death and the doctors expected me to die! For thirty-five years I console people who have lost a member of their family. The most difficult cases were the ones when I had to console mothers! Well, I tried to use my ...experience of death to alleviate the suffering of others! Thank you so much! Sorry for Eileens' reply here! !

Agapite Eileen, so nice to see you again! Thank you very, very, much for your visit and your more than generous comment! The truth belong to GOD we humans are condemned only to believe as long as we are in the flesh. Once liberated, we see the light, HIS light, The only true light! God bless you! Me agape!

My Dear Sweet poet...this is absolutely fabulous...Beautifully penned...From your stand point of conviction...it is without fault...My beliefs differ...but I can still see the beauty in the words...Once we do arrive there...whether as you believe...as soon as we die...or whether as I believe...at the Second Coming...we WILL leave behind all strife and care and will change.."In the twinkling of an EYE" Filakia....you are always so full of grace...

A sad but beautifully written poem. It made me shed a little tears.. but in the end you made the character benefited...even though its sad for the reader it left the character rejoicing. The Greeks are still the best...

Dearest Christine, I am so sorry if my poem caused you to shed one tar or two but my intention was not that. It was only to brave our death, when it comes, and to anticipate a time when our souls would be free and happy under God's protection! Thank you so very much for your comment. You are so kind!
