The Clock Is Ticking

From the moment we inhale that first life-giving breath, 'Til the day we exhale the inevitable rale of death, We're allotted a few ticks of the clock for life's rocky bourne, To champion all that is good and all that is evil to scorn! Do we take time to bind the wounds of those we have pained, Or ask forgiveness from those whose honor we have stained? For the lonely, hungry and homeless regardless of their creeds, Do we share our time and alms to supplement their needs? Do we thank Him for the awesome universe giving us pleasure? Do we hug our kids telling each that they are a precious treasure? Have we taken time to mentor and encourage others along the way, And their fears and apprehensions, have we helped to allay? Have we taken time to console those who have suffered loss, To walk that extra mile with them to help bear their cross? Have we taken time to foster peace, goodwill and brotherhood, And practice the simple, yet apt, Golden Rule as we should? Time inexorably marches on - alas, our time on earth is fleet. There's no turning back the clock or rewinding it to repeat, Things left undone or hoped for during our earthly walk. Consider this - we have just so many ticks allotted by the clock! Robert L.
