The Circus I & Ii

I.

The circus is coming
or so the signs say
with clowns and seals
and a dog that can stay
on a big red ball.

The circus is coming
with a flying trapeze
far away overhead and
lions on their knees
in a very big cage.

The circus is coming
with buttery popcorn smells
and cotton candy ...
that sure is swell
and so sticky sweet!

I hear the train whistle
saying to come on down
and watch them unload
all the tents in our town.
Hooray ... the circus is here!

                                  II.

The circus is coming
for another eight long years
of elephants and asses
dancing to the cheers
of new children
who have never seen the circus.

The circus is coming
with spangled truth jugglers
and clowns to inspire
all the new voters
to attain their desire
for change.

The circus is coming
with sideshow freaks to be
center stage on the world
in this the greatest democracy
when, in reality ...
its just another circus.
