The Changing Face of the Media

Every time I look I see a different face, As the media gathers pace, In the influencing race. No longer in the news business, No longer bothering to clean up their mess, No longer checking before going to press, No longer thinking about mases to impress, With no more mirrors in the place, For the past to embrace, It is now all about the modern face, And it's influence on the race, With few caring about the hardship investigative reporters face, If they have too many facts to put in place. It is only a matter of time before the media will have to face, Up with a "we misjudged the mood of the public face", With little chance of another "thanks for the award face", With every chance of no "poker face", As they will need a "change of heart face', Before the music they have to face, For undue influence on the outcome of the human race. Oh how on earth did the media , Get such an idea, That influencers would for them, be there, When there were so many of us who could see what was living there, That influencers are masters of what people want to hear, And are more worried about how they look on air, And how much money can be made from them being there, Than how many facts they produce for us to hear. I wonder how the media will respond to what is here, How much influence I have to spare, And how many new faces I will be shown this year.

It somewhat begins in childhood as young children are pushed around the grocery store with a cell phone in their hands. Sad. Mom teach your child the word kiwi in the produce isle. Someday it will expand her vocabulary, helping her to be a better reader hopefully from a BOOK!

You are right MariKate. It is Mothers day today. We had breakfast at our daughters place at end of our street. Another family tradition. Our cup is overflowing. These days I don't ask why but just enjoy the moments.

We need to keep writing about issues that matter as you never know who is reading it that has ability to decrease he worse and increase the best. I strongly believe in poetry from poets with character to bring back ethics and give humanity a chance to reset priorities. Hugs back. David in NZ

The media is in a terrible state. No longer do we have "free press" in the USA. They're basically propagandists now. A very dangerous state of affairs. Like your mono-rhyme stanzas in this thoughtful piece!

Thanks for taking time to read Katharine L. Sparrow. it has been suggested that in towns where there are local newspapers that are not owned by big papers people seem to vote more. Competition and lots of it is needed if we want to make the press truly free. That and using proper investigative reporters instead of influencers. But at least we still have poetry to console and give hope. Will look up your work. Take care David in NZ
