The Chance Meeting

A tiny dot at the horizon,
At the very far end of the road,
I knew it was a human,
Not a dog, or a speeding Ford.

Must have been a mile away,
So the eye could just see,
Moving slowly with swing and sway,
I knew it was coming towards me.

Tall I looked in my stance,
Standing lonely by the way,
Only emptiness to glance,
As I looked around my stay.

Vast deserted land on either side,
Trees,shrubs, and rising hot air,
No place to try and seek a hide,
But come this far, should one care?

The dot grew larger as I stood,
But still too hazy to comment,
Too early to judge, bad or good,
No moment to rejoice, to lament.

I took my chance, stayed my ground,
Saw the stranger at a closer view,
Decade since, that desolate surround,
I met the one amongst a chosen few!

I have been asked to explain the poem. This is how we tend to judge people. We cannot judge them from a distance, from close you can only judge in good time. We are sometimes afraid to forge a relationship, but a stranger then becomes the best person in our lives!!

We always meet the right person at the right time.
