The Cat Calls
‘Meow!meow!!meow!!!’ ,he calls
The female dances to his arrival,
Tonight food will be delicious,
Time to make more babies is here.
‘Meow!,meow!!,meow!!!’ ,he whispers,
rats panic ,alarm is being raised,
mothers lock up their children,
fathers tip-toed without making a sound.
‘Meow!,meow!!,meow!!!’,he beckons,
Time to play and to train begins,
They file out in numbers lying flat
on their bellies listening to the wind.
‘Meow!,meow!!,meow!!!,’he hisses,
Alert! , claws out ,furs standing upright,
Foes around; to attack and defend,
Eyes turn pink and blue with erect whiskers.
