The Candle

I hold onto a memory
of someone so special,
I was alive and excited
for the first time;
it felt so right...it felt so intense,
but like a candle - it lost its brightness,
and finally burned out.
I still desired the intensity,
I still longed for the brightness;
her candle of love never burned again,
only a melted remnant remained.
Her memory and her love burns brighter
than thousands of blazing lighted candles,
but sadly...only one candle is ever lit.

This is so moving, George. Most relationships begin with such intensity, but few manage to maintain it. I like the comparison of love to the light of candles. Made me think of Elton John's "Candle in the Wind." Great work! Best wishes, Carolyn
