The Cabin

Like alarms in my ears, these horns blaring, Through my peaceful dreams and nightmare, tearing, With smoke in my lungs and sleep in my eyes, Out of my bed in this city, I rise. The sand pits as I step out of my home, With waves bathing my feet sometimes, I roam, Crabs burying themselves to touch of the sea, Cleavage of blues at horizon I see. The cool winds entering through the window, Bring with them the cool of the mountain snow, Solace from the midday heat they provide, I watch two forces of nature collide. Through the canopy, pours gold to the ground, As to earth, through leaves, a path sun has found, The leaves rustle and the twigs snap under, In the thicket, aimless, as I wander The sun dips in the sand and turns it cold, Moon crawls up as I see the night unfold, On a deep blue canvas, the white specks spread, I trust them to guide me back to my bed. The cabin amidst the dancing crops stands, Lifeless against the life begetting lands; Farmers gather around the fire they made, While I watch the dazzling fireflies parade. The cabin takes me places high and low, But can't travel to where I want to go, A place safe for every being that has breath, And nobody ever wishes for death.
