The Brute

The Brute

By Elton Camp

Jody hangs his head in dismay
Not knowing what to say

His father is doing it once more
Shameful what’s behind the door

What he’ll do, his wife he tells
“It’s your fault!” he angrily yells

“If you would only do what right
There would be no need to fight.”

“A lesson you have yet to learn.
So, it’s a beating you did earn!”

Jody hears slap and then a scream.
For him, another horrible dream

“He doesn’t mean to be that way,”
His mother always will later say

“He’s really a very good man
Who does the best that he can”

Jody shakes his head and cries
As he see his mother’s black eyes

What will the outcome finally be?
That, not a person can possibly see

It's also hard on a child that has to see it done. Thanks for reading.

Very sad indeed, but domestic violence and abuse is something that takes place in reality ... everywhere and anywhere in our planet. Good poem Elton! Sad but written well. Cheers! xxxx D .

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I wrote this after seeing a photo of a child sitting on the stoop while his father beat his mother inside the house. He looked so dismayed.
