The Broken Watch

Our time has all but stopped Just like a broken watch Our hands are bound, unable to move a single notch Pieces fitting tightly are worn and slipping free Now tension fills the springs where the passion used to be Our band of love is torn And shredded to the core It’s strength once at the buckle Not holding anymore We throw it in a drawer To fix another day Years have passed we realized Our chance had slipped away With hinges needing care a face now scratched with years We do not need to hold it close To see its end is near Engraved, though wearing thin The underside reveals “To my Wife with Love for Thee” Across the broken seal In my haste and folly Set free the hands of time On another’s wrist I see A watch that once was mine
