The Breath I Am

I searched for the place beyond.
I dug through the sky with bleeding hands.
I wept at the gates of silence,
begging for the face of what made me.

But there is no beyond.
Only the breath I am already breathing.

I am not a pilgrim walking toward God.
I am a cell in its blood.
A whisper in its endless mouth.
