While away the past couple of weeks the opportunity arose to observe people interacting with their phones. Many people prefer app interaction over human conversation.

the brain makes the call

Boredom deprives minds of power
Brains without purpose may sour
So shower a head
With endorphins instead
Via game apps played every hour

Silent One, thanks for this response. I am finding that reading your work keeps me very occupied mentally. You have a variety of styles and ideas. I am thinking it's a bit of a commitment to read all your work, and I can't promise I can do this always, but I really do enjoy what you've been writing. Sometimes, I probably don't interpret your work the way you may have meant it, but I suspect you understand that sometimes will happen.

Dear Duke, this is a great relevant limerick from you and how true! What annoys me is when you are out and people are looking at their phones and not paying attention to where they are walking. I’ve seen elderly people nearly get knocked down as they’re being bumped into it. I’ve also seen young ones going across major roads with their eyes clamped to their phones and not oncoming traffic! Love the line, ‘ Brains without purpose may sour’ and the picture is great too. Hope you enjoyed your time

Thanks for the comment Christina. We've all seen the crazy behavior that seems unbelievable. It's everywhere now. I was with family yesterday and saw two people at a restaurant sitting across from each other looking at their cell phones while dining. I almost wanted to say something but did not of course.

Nice to meet U here. My best friend is hand-stitched to her phone. I dont own a cell phone. Love your declarative, relavant comment. I find it disturbing when people are thrilled, showing pics of their toddlers holding phones! A concerning thing for our grandchikdren’s generation. Blessings, sally

Thanks for the comment Sally. We really don't know what the effects of all this will be over the long term, but it is worrisome. The fact that you don't have a cell phone testifies to your own beliefs, which we should all think about. I have one and notice that I have to be careful about how I use it. There's a huge downside to all of it.

Clever rhymes. You do them so well dear duke. And yes this is now the new normal, and most do prefer communicating online or via apps and not in person. Sadly that is the reality. IE, this comment is much appreciated. I was away for a while and missed this place. Reading comments such as yours does something positive for my outlook on life. It's a chance to communicate, which I find enjoyable, and it's obviously better for mental health than just watching a screen. I am doing well....hope you are too. I've just been busy and find that chores that require a lot of effort seem to reduce my ability to focus on writing. Writing inspiration often seems to come in cycles. I have a little free time this AM and will check out some of your work. Be well!!!

Hilda, I suspect they do help if used in moderation. For someone confined, it might be the only way to experience things.

Great message in this one. I can't stand these cell phones in school. How could our nation ever have allowed them in the classroom? Ever since then, I noticed the decline in students focusing on learning.

Dear Duke, welcome back, my friend; we missed your poetry. Wow, what a great limerick poem! It gets to the point of how people nowadays would rather chat on their phones than have genuine discussions with real people. You articulated the effects of technology on interpersonal communication and how gaming applications detract from face-to-face encounters rather well. Your explanation was crystal clear. You captured the irresistible allure of technology in a lighthearted manner through rhyme and rhythm.
