The Box With a Broken Heart

Going through box after box Memories floating around Then I stumble upon parts of you Items showing me the true cost Reluctantly I sift through our broken dreams Things I thought would never end Our past-time of smiles has hardened to ice I now feel the feelings I could not then comprehend Hands gently unfolded your letters Reminiscing what happened those six months ago I can now read these without the hurricane of emotions My heartbreak gradually softened the blow The ink from the words of love and hope Stained the paper which once brushed your hand But I guess the time and space between us Left your "I love you's" and false flattery bland Still guarding my heart and emotions I slowly tucked the pages from where they came The next element of our past surfaced I grabbed the next item, my nostalgia to blame Tickets from events where our love started to bloom Times where we were always together The laughing, the smiling, the kisses we shared Our memories from every last adventure The warm, fuzzy feelings thinking about this Abruptly and coldly erupt As I sit there, staring at them The last two items which made my heart corrupt At this point I knew I'd lost it Even though I had handled then during my heartbreak No matter how many times I had faced them Your necklace and bracelet made me have a double-take Hands shaking, I picked up the wrist-let Reading the words engraved around "I love you to the moon and back" I could've sworn my heart shattering made a sound Next I unclasped the necklace And out of old habit placed it around my neck The butterfly upon it which was once so natural Now oddly felt burning, a toxic speck I sat there for what seemed like hours The emblem resting against my chest How could something that was once a part of me Be burning on my skin, not at rest No longer abe to take these distant memories of you I buried the letters, tickets, and jewelry at the bottom of the box I now understood the consequences of me giving you my heart All my lover and happiness was your final cost
