The Boozy Buccaneer

A reckless young pirate named Greg Drank whisky straight out of a keg. He cried 'Look at me!' In shark-ridden sea; That drink cost an arm and a leg! 14.04.19 Pirate Themed Limerick Poetry Contest: sponsored by Tania Kitchin

Thanks, Eve. Yes, it seems that we caught the same rhyming cues but my protagonist was somewhat older!

Thanks, Lindsey. I often seem to get the closing line in my head first then work backwards!

Thanks, Tania. I often resort to idioms for the punchline!

Thanks, Joseph. It took a while to get inspiration for this challenge for some reason so I'm glad it was well received.

Oh, I like this a lot, Wendy ... it is definitely a winner! I was so last-minute that I took the easy bait and thought of my own name first ... it was early this morning and I was literally the last entry, so I couldn't waste time pondering and did the same, (working backward from the last line of the first Limerick) - "Greg", "peg-leg", rum "keg", etc.. JUST under the wire ... great minds think alike, haha! (Though mine's not so great lately, lol). Blessings and best wishes for the contest!!

Thanks,Greg. For a last minute effort yours was rather impressive! I have a tendency to use idioms and word play when writing limericks as in the closing line above. I must look up the origin of this one! Who was the poor first victim of lost limbs I wonder?!
